For southern Wisconsin, fire season is well underway. For others in the north? Well, unfortunately, it may be June before some of the snow piles completely melt. But, its never too early to be thinking about spring fire season. To gear up, the DNR launched an update to WisBURNthe place to get current fire season information throughout Wisconsin.

Many people have come to recognize the Wisconsin DNRs fire danger and burn restrictions webpage over the years. It draws in nearly 700,000 page views every year from outdoor enthusiasts, rural property owners, hunters, farmers, local governments, and even the media.
Earlier this year, the Division of Forestry officially launched the latest rendition of WisBURN. Users take notethe web address has changed, seamless redirects are in place, and its now considered a web-based, interactive mapping application. The updated web address is now: apps.dnr.wi.gov/wisburn,

DNR INVITES PUBLIC TO WORK PLAY EARTH DAY EVENTS VOLUNTEER AND RECREATE IN WISCONSIN STATE PARKS THIS MONTH
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced Work Play Earth Day volunteer events are returning this April.
The public has several opportunities to celebrate Earth Day (April 22) throughout the month through acts of service and outdoor recreation at Wisconsin state parks.
Earth Day was founded in 1970 by Wisconsin native Gov. Gaylord Nelson to raise awareness about air and water pollution. Today, Earth Day is observed around the globe and is commemorated as a full month of recognition, stewardship and celebration of the natural environment.
The public can participate in family-friendly activities that help enhance public lands. These events lead to lasting enhancements, increased awareness and continued support for Wisconsin's state parks.
"Every year, we look forward to celebrating Earth Day with the public at our beautiful parks, forests, trails and recreation areas," said Janet Hutchens, Wisconsin State Parks Friends Group and Volunteer Coordinator. "Working in our parks helps us feel more invested in the care of our public lands. It's also a great way to enjoy the outdoors."

DNR ENCOURAGES PUBLIC TO SUBMIT FEEDBACK FOR THE 2023 DEER SEASON PROVIDE INPUT THROUGH ONLINE AND IN-PERSON OPPORTUNITIES
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is seeking public comments for the 2023 deer season, including harvest quotas and other key parts of deer management as part of the annual County Deer Advisory Council (CDAC) process. The public comment period is open April 8-16.
Annually, each county's CDAC meets to provide input and recommendations to the DNR on deer management within their area, based on deer herd metrics, county deer population objectives and the public feedback they receive. Information on each countys harvest and population metrics can be found on the Wisconsin Deer Metrics System.

DNR PUBLISHES 2023-2024 FISHING REGULATIONS AVAILABLE IN ENGLISH, SPANISH AND HMONG
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that the 2023-2024 Guide to Wisconsins Fishing Regulations is now available.
These regulations went into effect on April 1, making now the perfect time for anglers to review daily bag and size limits and season dates. Additionally, anglers are encouraged to review and understand any specific rules or regulations associated with the body of water they plan to fish. All license requirements apply.

WATER QUALITY TRADING CLEARINGHOUSE CONTRACT ESTABLISHED IN WISCONSIN FIRST MARKET-BASED EFFORT IN AMERICA
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) today announced that the State of Wisconsin has entered into a contract to establish the nation's first market-based water quality trading clearinghouse. The clearinghouse is an innovative solution to water quality issues that compensates farmers and landowners, saves wastewater facilities money and protects Wisconsin's water resources.
"By working collaboratively, both point and nonpoint sources of nutrient pollution can be controlled through water quality trading. The clearinghouse now provides for an innovative, streamlined approach to facilitate and encourage water quality trading efforts throughout Wisconsin," said DNR Secretary Adam N. Payne.

FISH AND WILDLIFE SPRING HEARINGS HAPPENING VIRTUALLY APRIL 10-13
The Wisconsin Conservation Congress (WCC) and Department of Natural Resources (DNR) invite the public to get involved in April during the annual spring hearing public input opportunity.
The WCC/DNR Spring Hearings focus on natural resource-related questions and proposed rule changes. They will again be held in a virtual format, as they have been since 2020. This years online questionnaire will be open from April 10 at noon through April 13 at noon via the Wisconsin Conservation Congress Spring Hearing webpage.
New this year will be open houses in each county to allow the public to ask questions and learn about resource management in their neck of the woods. Open houses will be held from April 3 through April 6. More details will be made available on the DNR's Events Calendar and Spring Hearing webpage as soon as details are finalized.

APPLY FOR THE 2023 ELK SEASON APPLICATION DEADLINE IS MAY 31
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters that the application period for the 2023 elk hunt is open until May 31.
Once widespread across North America, elk were eliminated from Wisconsin in the 1880s. Thanks to the support of many partners and the backing of Wisconsinites, the herd is back.

DNR ASKS PUBLIC FOR HELP WITH FROG AND TOAD CALLING SURVEYS
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) asks the public to participate in the annual Wisconsin Frog and Toad Survey to help document frog and toad breeding calls throughout the state this spring and summer.
The Wisconsin Frog and Toad Survey was formally launched in 1984 amid concerns about declining populations of several species of frogs. Since then, citizen scientists have helped DNR conservation biologists better define the distribution, status and population trends of all 12 frog and toad species in Wisconsin.

Bonus Harvest Authorizations For Spring Turkey Season Available Beginning March 20
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will begin selling 2023 bonus spring turkey harvest authorizations on Monday, March 20, with a designated sale date for each zone.
Previously known as leftover permits, bonus harvest authorizations are available for purchase through the DNR's online license portal at GoWild.Wi.Gov or at all license agents. Sales begin at 10 a.m. and run through midnight each day.
Hunters who want additional harvest authorizations or who missed the spring turkey drawing deadline last December can purchase bonus authorizations beginning March 20.
Hunters are encouraged to check the turkey zone map and the spring turkey bonus harvest authorization availability to see if harvest authorizations are available for the period and turkey zone they wish to hunt.
Bonus harvest authorizations are $10 for residents and $15 for non-residents. Both residents and non-residents will have equal opportunities for purchase. Hunters can purchase bonus authorizations at a rate of one per day until the zone and time period are sold out or until the season closes. Bonus harvest authorization purchases will not affect preference point status for future spring drawings.
